Hands-on Workshop
Dates:    July 18th and 19th (hands-on)
Time:     9am to 12pm and 1pm to 4pm each day   
 Fee:       $190  (Fee includes all three days and materials) 
                                        unlimited use of studio during workshop dates
July 17th:  
Antoinette Badenhorst is internationally known for her sensual porcelain envelope vessels.  In the morning she will demonstrate throwing, trimming,and adjusting porcelain forms in her own unique way.  In the afternoon she will continue the demonstration with her envelope forms using press molding methods. Press molding includes pressing clay in the mold and attaching of different parts to create her distinctive envelope pieces.  
She will  also discuss the unique characteristics of working with a porcelain clay body.  
All are welcome.

July 18th and 19th - Hands-on Workshop:
Antoinette will guide you in apply techniques learned in the July 17th demonstration.

Nancy UTterback

We are honored to have Nancy Utterback as our judge for the 6th Clay Continuum Exhibition and Sale in La Veta.  She will award the winners at the Art Opening on July 23rd (Hours: 5-7pm).  A demonstration workshop will take place on Sunday the 24th.  Both are open to the public.  See the techniques used in Nancy Utterback’s artistic practice as she takes us into her life as a clay artists who specializes in firing with salt.

Fridays for fun 
kid’s clay workshop                   
Date:    August 5th                   
Fee:        $25
Two sessions will be offered, one for the younger students and one for the older students. Individual arrangements will be made to come back after your work has been fired to then decorate your creations.  Register through La Veta School of the Arts.

whimsical teapot workshop & More! 

with Sharon Mccoy       

Dates:     June 20, 21, 22 & 27  

Time:       9am - Noon (4 half days)

Fee:         $190 (includes $25 materials & Multiple firings Fee) 

                                unlimited use of studio during workshop dates


This hand building workshop will be a demonstration and hands-on experience in making functional whimsical teapots and volumetric forms.  The emphasis is on seeing, and understanding the visual and tactile language of pottery and encouraging you to explore your inner whimsy. No prior experience is necessary.  Sharon has taught her methods with small children as well as adults. Pinch pots, coil, slab and assembling methods will be demonstrated to articulate more complex forms.

Part two will be a demonstration on the attention given to surface and color.  Using Amaco velvet underglazes, Sharon will reveal how to achieve depth with color.  She will show painting on green ware as well as layering stain and underglaze on the bisque ware and will offer stimulating discussions of form, surface, and color.

whimsical teapot workshop & More!

Slump, Pinch, Slip and sgrafitto            

Dates:     August  8, 9, 15        

Time:        9am to noon

Fee:         $100  (3 half days)

                  

This is similar to last year’s workshop with a few new twists.  Explore hand building slab work with Cristine Boyd and pinch methods with Nicole Copel.   Cristine will demonstrate her sgraffito decorating technique and guide you in creating press molded pieces. Using tools that you will make she will show you how to use them to carve through the colored clay and create designed surfaces.  With Nicole, design, make and decorate a set of salt and pepper shakers.  The use of slips and underglazes will be demonstrated for use as surface decoration.  No Previous experience necessary.
